What is MRI?

Definition: Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI

MRI is a painless test which helps a doctor to see certain physical processes occurring in the body. A large magnet creates a magnetic field around a patient. These fields are then used by computers to create detailed images of internal physiology, resulting in the ability to discover internal problems and disease processes with far less need for more invasive procedures.

In neurology, an MRI test can be ordered for many things, such as in diagnosing Multiple Sclerosis and other abnormal brain activity.

Depending on the specific images required, an MRI can last for 30 minutes to an hour in most cases.
